| What our group does: |
| | Neighbourhood Watch in Kendray was started by a family in the central area here in 1992 and has always been active in highlighting concerns around crime and the fear of crime and seeking to address them.
We are self help groups, each N.H.W. scheme consists of 5 – 15 homes and are under the guidance of a street co-ordinator. Members decide their own priorities for their scheme and set their own meetings.
Making people feel safer in their own homes and improving the quality of life in our community through linking with others working in and for our area has always been a common priority.
The Crime & Disorder Act of 1998 requires the Police and Local Authorities to work together and with other agencies to reduce crime and disorder in their areas, which includes working with Neighbourhood Watches to learn of the issues concerning their communities.
Kendray’s N.H.W’s are affiliated to Barnsley N.H.W. Liaison Group, as are all N.H.W’s in Barnsley and through this group there is an opportunity to become members of the Community Safety Partnership and help shape Barnsley’s Community Safety Plan.
Through the Liaison Group the N.HW’s in each council Ward have the opportunity to nominate an Area Co-ordinator for their Ward from whom they can seek help and advice with their scheme.
The Liaison Group have regular meetings for it’s members and Area Co-ordinators.
Watches can only be set up through John Hallows so anyone interested in setting up a N.H.W. should contact him in the first instance.
