What our group does:
  Sunnybank has been set up to support families with children under the age of 5.

Sunnybank Children's Centre offers access toprofessional workers from many agencies who can offer advice, support and links in to a variety of services and organisations. They can help with all issues families may face when their children are young.

The Sunnybank Children's Centre covers promarily the areas of Kendray, Bank End, Ward Green, Worsrbough Dale, Worsbrough Bridge and Stairfoot.

What can Sunnbank Children's Centre offer to children and families?

Outreach work from out support team.
Bookstart provide free books for young children.
Access to Health Visitors and Midwives.
Pre-school groups delivered by our childcare team.
Advice, support and information for you and your family.
Promotion of early learning and language development.
Support for expectant parents before and after the birth/
Nutrition advice and weaning parties.
Parent and child library resources.
Access to stop smoking service.
Job search and traning advice.
Parent training courses.
Nursery Provision - full daycare (Charges apply).

All services and activties are FREE except for nursery provision, although there may be an occasional small charge for trips out etc.

First Tastes / Baby Cafe.

To help introduce your chld to solid food.
First Tastes - aimed at children aged 3-6 months.
Baby Cafe - aimed at children under 18 months. Contact Kathie (sure Start Nutritionist) on 285420 for deatils including transport.

'Get Cooking'

Have fun cooking in a small group the healthy way. You choose the recipes and we provide the food. Then we all cook and eat. You don't need to be a comfident cook, it is just a bit of fun with food. It is a 4-6 week course. Contact Kathie on 285420 for details.

Open College Network
Run by friendly NHS Dietitians/Nutritionists.
Level 1 - Learn about nutritional needs for all ages, from pregnancy to under 5 years through to teens and elderly. Food hygine and recipe adaptation is also covered. At the same time you can gain a nationally recognised qualification.
Level 2 & 3 - Apply the knowledge learned at level 1 to teaching 'Get Cooking' Courses.

Webster Stratton Parent/Carer Groups.

Aimed at parents with children experiencing bdhaviour issues. These are run at different times throughout the year. Contact 01226 294604 for details.
Ante-Natal support and smoking cessation specialist
Support for expectant parents from the Sure Start Project Midwife. Contact Barbara on 294604 for more details.

Speech and language

The Sure Start Speech and Language Therapist provides a wide and varided programme of events and activites throughout the year, across the Sure Start area. The Speech and Language Therapist works in nurseries, in baby clinics and in homes, as well as providing access to mainstream Speech and Language services. There is also training of others in Speech and Language issues and contributions to research. The speech and Language Measures Project for 2 year old chldren is also undertaken by the Speech and Langauge therapist all year round.

Bookstart/Library Resources

Free Loan of books, cassettes, CD's and videos from Kendray and Worsbrough Libraries. Support to encourage reading. Regular Story & Rhyme sessions are held in local libraries.
